Just another comment on fork seals on my '87 savage. I just replaced the fork seals. I had a hard time removing the allen bolts. I called the local suzuki dealer and asked for the tool. He said that they dont carry the tool.

He went on to say that there are two tools they use to remove savage fork dampeners. A broom-stick which they jam into the tapered center of the dampener. If that doesn't work, the other thing they do is weld a 19mm nut to the end of a rod. The nut is supposed to fit into the top of the dampener (which actually looks like a 12 point).

I tried the 19mm nut, but it was too small, I think it should have been a 21mm. I actually used the broom-stick method and air impact wrench, it worked fine.

Talking to a suzuki "professional" can be very eye-opening at times.
